Rhonda J. Pomerantz, M.D.

Rhonda J. Pomerantz is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology. at New York University Medical Center. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Pennsylvania. She then attended New York University School of Medicine and received her M.D. in 1989. She completed a full internship and residency program in Internal Medicine at New York University Medical Center and was Board Certified in 1992. From 1992 through 1995, she served as a Dermatology resident and Chief Resident at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn. She became Board Certified in Dermatology in 1995. She joined the dermatology staff at NYU in 1995 where she was actively involved in educating the dermatology residents and supervising the Bellevue Dermatology Clinic. Her research is in the area of risk factors for Malignant Melanoma. She has published articles on this topic and also on medical diseases with dermatologic manifestations. She has presented at the Annual American Academy of Dermatology meeting. Dr. Pomerantz is an active member of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Women¹s Dermatology Society, the Dermatology Society of Greater New York and the American College of Physicians. She's specialized in Skin Cancer, Acne, Medical Dermatology and Cosmetic problems affecting the skin.

 

Barbar Rao, M.D.

Dermatologist and dermatopathologist, Babar Rao, MD, is internationally known for his work in melanocytic neoplasms. He currently serves as the Director of the Melanoma Pigmented Lesion Center and as the Residency Program Director and Assistant Professor of the Division of Dermatology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Dr. Rao’s research involves non-invasive tools for diagnosing melanomas and other skin cancers. He has published approximately 35 papers, has written chapters in a number of textbooks, and is a well-known speaker at dermatology meetings. Dr. Rao initially trained in dermatology at the Institute of Dermatology, St. John’s/St. Thomas’ Hospital in London. He completed a dermatology residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell University Medical College and obtained advanced training in melanoma at New York University Medical Center and in dermtopathology at University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey/New Jersey Medical School.

 

Alison B. Gruen, M.D.

Alison B. Gruen is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Princeton University and attended Yale University School of Medicine from which she received her MD degree in May 2000. After an internship in Internal Medicine at Saint Vincent’s Hospital in New York, she served as Resident and Chief Resident in Dermatology from 2001 through 2004 at the State University of N.Y. Medical Center in Brooklyn.During her Dermatology residency, Dr. Gruen received the Outstanding Physician Award for patient care at King’s County Hospital and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society in 2004. She is a Diplomat of the American Board of Dermatology. She is also an active member of both the American Academy of Dermatology and the Women’s Dermatologic Society.

 

Michele C. Pauporte, M.D.

Dr. Michele Pauporte is a native New Yorker who did her internship at New York University Hospital. She completed her training in Dermatology and Dermatologic surgery at the University of California, San Francisco. She is trained in general, surgical and cosmetic dermatology. Her focus is on skin cancer and dermatologic surgery. One of her areas of expertise is Mohs micrographic surgery: a very precise technique for treating facial tumors. The practice involves excising the tumors and subsequently "mapping" the tissue to track the progress of the surgery; the aim is to remove only the cancerous tissue, while preserving the surrounding normal tissue and performing reconstruction with simple closures, skin flaps and grafts. While the procedure can be time consuming, it has an extremely high cure rate. Dr. Pauporte is also an expert in laser and cosmetic surgery; she uses lasers and other techniques to treat a variety of common disorders such as pigmented lesions, facial blood vessels, unwanted hair, photoaging and leg veins. She is also experienced in the use of Botox, Collagen and Restylane to treat wrinkles, hyperhidrosis, scars and aging skin. Dr. Pauporte has authored professional journal articles and two textbook chapters. She has presented at various public meetings on topics such as Uncommon Cutaneous Malignancies, Pulsed Dye Laser for Port Wine Stains, and What's New in Inflammatory Dermatoses. Dr. Pauporte’s practice is open to patients with a broad variety of medical and surgical dermatology problems. She is a board certified of the American Academy of Dermatology, American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology and member of American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

 

Hilary L. Reich, M.D.

Dr. Reich joined our group in the spring of 2004. Dr. Reich graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa from Brandeis University, and went on to receive her medical degree from New York University School of Medicine. She served as a intern at Lenox Hill Hospital and then completed her residency in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Reich is an attending physician at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where she specializes in Pediatric Dermatology. She is also a staff physician at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
